Because the Peloton bike frame seems heavy and ungainly, many people wonder if it is easy to move. However, the bike is pretty easy to move and can be carried even downstairs by two people.

Knowing how heavy the bike is and what is the easiest way to move it around can be quite handy information when you want to move your bike from one place to another.

It is recommended to remove the screen and other fragile accessories prior to moving because this step will not only make the bike a little less heavy but also ensure that the screen doesn’t get damaged in the process.

As I mentioned earlier, Peloton even recommends removing the other parts as well, such as the pedals, sweat guard, weight holders, and the water bottle holder prior to moving. However, this may not be necessary if you simply want to move your bike from one room to another within the same house.

If you want to know the step-by-step instructions to move your bike safely, keep reading on.

Moving the Bike from Room to Room

It should be pretty straightforward to move the Peloton bike from one room to another, especially if the room is located on the same ground level.

There are two wheels located on the front stabilizers, known as transport wheels. Stand behind the bike and grab the back stabilizers using both your hands. Now tilt the bike so the weight is shifted to its front wheels and start pushing it till you reach the new location.

Remember the entire weight of the bike is on two small wheels when you tilt it, so keep it very steady and move slowly if you want to avoid an accident or injury.

When lowering the bike to its normal position, lower it slowly to avoid a thump. It’s recommended to put a mat under the Peloton bike to protect it from getting damaged.

If you feel the bike is not leveled on the floor, unscrew the leveling feet until all four feet are resting firmly on the ground.

If you are moving the bike upstairs or downstairs, you are going to need another person’s help. It’s easy to lift the bike up but make sure there are no loose parts that might come off while you’re holding the bike in the air. This might result in injury and may also distract you from the task at hand.

Moving the Peloton Bike by Truck

When you have to relocate the bike to a new house, it is recommended to remove all the moving parts as well as its touchscreen, water bottle holder, and weights.

Peloton recommends using a moving company to ensure that your bike is in safe hands while it is transported by truck.

If professional help is not available, have one person hold the bike by the handlebars while you hold the back and lift the bike. In most circumstances, you won’t need to lift the bike up because the wheels would be enough to push it forward.

You can also invest in a shoulder dolly, which is known as a moving harness and it’s used to distribute the weight of the bike between two people.

It is also recommended to wrap your bike in a moving blanket when it is hoisted onto the truck to prevent scratches and to protect the parts from getting damaged.

When hoisting it onto the truck, take extra precautions to make sure the bike doesn’t scratch or bump into anything. It is also recommended to use straps to tie the bike on all four sides so it doesn’t fall over when the truck starts moving.

Ask the driver to drive slowly and carefully until the bike reaches its new home. Dismount it from the truck in a similar fashion and make sure none of its parts gets scratched during the process.

Does Peloton Offer Support for Moving the Bike?

If you don’t want to move the bike yourself, rest assured that Peloton has trained technicians to handle the job on your behalf. They will not just remove the parts and put them back on after the move, but will also provide the transport and make sure the bike remains safe throughout the process.

Some people would recommend availing this service because if an authorized Peloton technician is handling the move and a part becomes damaged, a Peloton warranty will cover this damage.

On the other hand, if you’re moving the bike yourself or even hire third-party movers and end up damaging the bike, it will not be covered under the warranty.

However, one downside of using this service is the steep cost associated with it. Bear in mind that the process may cost you about $175 per step.

Tips to Make Sure the Bike Remains Safe While Moving

Nobody wants to get their equipment damaged while they are moving it from one place to another. Particularly where Peloton is concerned, you should make sure none of its parts including the HD screen experiences any damage.

Here are a few tips to ensure the process is completed smoothly.

1. Remove the touchscreen and other parts that may make the move difficult including the pedals. But make sure you are able to install them back once the bike has been moved.

How to remove the touchscreen?

Make sure you have a Phillips head screwdriver available in your toolbox before attempting to remove the screen. Power off the bike and unplug it from the socket. Also, unplug the monitor cable located at the back of the screen. If there are any other cables attached to it, remove them as well.

First, remove the square panel from the back of the screen. You will see four screws on the back that can be loosened and removed using the screwdriver. Make sure there is another person helping you out who would be able to hold the touchscreen when it comes off the monitor arm.

When you have to mount the screen again, have someone hold it in place and tighten the screws. Attach the monitor cable and the square guard.

In the case of Bike+, the process is slightly different but easy to pull off. Just make sure the screen is vertical and fully rotated so it faces the ceiling before you attempt to remove the bolts.

How to remove the pedals?

If you have factor-fitted pedals on your bike, you are going to need a 15mm wrench to remove them. It is also known as a box-end wrench and is usually available in every household.

Adjust the wrench over the area that connects the pedal with the crank arm and turn it clockwise to loosen the bolt. Continue using the wrench till the pedal comes off. Once the bolt is loosened enough, you can also use your fingers to loosen it further.

Repeat the process with the other pedal. The same process can be followed when you need to replace your pedals as a maintenance step.

2. Bring the handlebars and seat post to the lowest position. But before bringing them down, don’t forget to note down their position on the scale so when you’re adjusting them again, you know where exactly to position them.

3. Make sure all the adjustment levers and bolts are fully tightened before you attempt to lift the bike up.

4. Turn the resistance knob all the way to the right to lock the pedals and flywheel in place. The flywheel weighs around 40 lbs, so it should be handled carefully in order to avoid injury during a move.

5. Pack all the tools that come with the bike along with the parts and accessories you removed very carefully. If any of these parts get lost in the process, it will be very difficult to put together the bike again and make sure it works properly.
